19-year-old Pirkka Sivonen has won a silver medal at Bella Nordic Jewellery Award held in Copenhagen 9.–12.8. The winner of the competition was Anne Sofie Bodenhoff from Denmark. Bella Nordic Jewellery Award is a Nordic championships competition for young goldsmiths in the Nordic region.
8 competitors competed in the competition. They were from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland. These countries had chosen in advance the two best competitors to compete in Copenhagen. Also Tommi Männistö took part in the contest.
Sivonen received the prize of 2 700 euros. The aim of the competition was to produce an item according to a model from silver and gold.
Pirkka Sivonen graduated as a jewellery artisan from Salpaus Further Eduaction last spring. His mentor for the contest was his teacher Arto Tikkunen from Salpaus. Now Sivonen works at Kultaseppämestari Tarkkanen in Helsinki.
Sivonen had previous experience of international competitions when he attended to a goldsmiths competition in Portugal last spring.
“The experience was useful. There are always many people chatting and photographing around you in competitions and you just have to concentrate on your own work”, he said.
Sivonen aims to compete also in the WorldSkills-competition in Leipzig, Germany at July 2013. He also plans to further his studies in the field of jewellery.
